John Gioia is a member of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. He was elected in June 1998 and re-elected in 2002, and represents the communities of El Cerrito, Richmond, San Pablo, El Sobrante, Kensington, Montalvin Manor, North Richmond, East Richmond Heights and Rollingwood.

John serves on numerous county and regional boards and commissions, including: Chair of the Board of Supervisors' Finance Committee, Association of Governments Executive Board, California State Association of Counties Board, San Francisco Bay Conversation and Development Commission, Contra Costa Transportation Authority, West Contra Costa Integrated Waste Management Authority, and the Contra Costa County Employee's Retirement Association Board of Directors.

John grew up in West Contra Costa County where he graduated form El Cerrito High School and the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. with highest honors in Political Science and earned his law degree from Boalt Hall. John practiced business and land use law in San Francisco and Richmond until his election to the Board of Supervisors.

John ALso served on the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) Board of Directors from 1989 to 1998 where he serves as President of EBMUD in 1995 and 1998.

John lives in Richmond and is the proud parent of Christopher who attends a local public school, and Emilia, born in 2004. John's wife Jennifer Peck, is the Executive Director of a non-profit which works on education and afterschool issues.
